I believe people would always think - Why a motorcycle? Why not a car? Let me tell you - there is no simple or correct answer for this. Simply stating, its just a choice made by an individual depending on the circumstances that person is in. Just like somebody would take a Yoga class and someone else might join a tedious aerobic zumba class. Both aiming for the same result - but different choices. Having said that, just like almost everything in the world, biking also has its own pros and cos.
Lets talk about few pros. Firstly - Freedom. You feel free when riding a bike. You feel the wind gushing through your hair and face and that makes you feel as if you are literally flying. No matter what speed you are going, your body always feel that it is in a continuous movement. And yeah, of course, for speed enthusiasts - there is no stopping. The extra thumping of the heart beat and the Adrenalin rush is what they get out of it. Would you fee the same inside a car? Ever wondered - why a dog always likes to stick its head out of the car window??
Secondly - ease of maneuvering. I stay in a busy city of Bangalore and I know how easy it is for me to wade my way through the gnarling traffic every day as compared to the ever-stuck four-wheeler out there. A bike just needs a small space - and boom, it goes through, while the four-wheeler keep honking. And, not only in cities, but even while traveling in tourist places, the same scenario applies - and is majorly time saving.
Thirdly - cost efficient. When you are at a tourist place, and if you have your own bike - it definitely saves a lot of money from wasting it on tourist cab operators - doesn't it? You can keep your own itenary, go wherever you want to - whenever you want to. Well you can have your own car too for that purpose - but do I have to say about fuel costs??
And of course, the list goes on and on and on....but lets talk about some cons now!
Firstly - Safety. People predominantly have the notion that a four wheeler is safer than a two wheeler. In most cases - that is a yes. But that does not mean that fatality never happens in a four wheeler. Accidents I believe are purely luck and your instinct and pro-activeness. One can be really careful while driving, follow all rules, stay in speed limit - but still, some stupid, ill-fated drunk guy might come from the opposite lane driving insanely at a rocket speed and bump into you. Just hope, something like that never happens!
Secondly - Comfort. Traveling in a car is a luxury. It can be sound proof and air-conditioned. You can watch movies, listen to loud music, talk and chat and giggle with friends, eat, snack, drink (not alcohol!), romance, and bla bla bla...what not. Of course, these are all that you cannot get it while riding a bike, but then as I said earlier - its all about choice - Yoga or aerobics??
Thirdly - Occasions. Taking your family out for a long ride or for a holiday is something that you cannot get accomplished on a bike (unless you have 2-3 bikes and your parents are just as much crazy as you!).
Again, the list will go on and on and on.
The matter of the fact remains the choice. Your attitude, your willingness, your craziness, your inner self. Nothing is wrong or right, it is just the way one views it. Whatever way you travel - be safe and enjoy the journey. I always believe journey is what makes the destination.
